Occupational Safety and Health

Occupational Safety and Health

The Hoshizaki Group manages safety in accordance with the laws and regulations of each country and region in which it operates. We advance a wide range of measures aimed at creating safe working environments as well as maintaining and improving the physical and mental health of our employees, and creating comfortable working environments.

Maintaining Appropriate Working Hours and Encouraging Use of Paid Leave

We strive to protect our employees’ health and create workplaces where our employees can work with peace of mind. As one of our initiatives, we are involved in efforts to ensure that working hours are appropriate. We carry out a variety of initiatives to manage appropriate working hours, such as issuing reminders to the managers of employees whose overtime hours exceed a certain threshold. The average monthly overtime per employee in 2023 was 15.8 hours (16.6 hours the previous year).

In order to foster an environment where it is easy to take paid leave, we use training and the intranet to ensure that all employees know about and understand our paid leave system, and encourage them to take it. In 2023, the paid leave utilization rate was 83.7% (82.0% the previous year) and the average number of days taken was 15.2 (14.9 days the previous year).

Mental Health

In accordance with the Industrial Safety and Health Act, Hoshizaki and our Group companies in Japan conduct annual stress checks on all employees in order to help prevent mental illness.

When the results of the stress check indicate that an employee requires care, we encourage them to consult with an industrial physician, provide consultations to those who request them, and take other appropriate measures, including connecting them to outside specialists when necessary. In addition, we perform group analyses of these stress checks annually, and use the results to improve work environments through a PDCA cycle.

We also have set up an in-house mental health hotline, and have created environments that enable employees to seek consultations.

Safety Initiatives

The Hoshizaki Group is committed to safety management based on the laws and regulations of each country and region in which we operate to create safe working environments. In the unlikely event of an industrial accident, the cause(s) of the accident and countermeasures are promptly shared within the Group to prevent similar accidents from occurring. Hoshizaki and Group manufacturing sites in Japan are actively engaged in safety patrols, risk assessments, and 5S activities to raise safety awareness.

The Group in Japan saw 88 industrial accidents occur in 2023 (86 the previous year).
